Sources of MSCs and minimal criteria for defining human MSCs. The figure (left) shows the different sources of MSCs including bone marrow, adipose tissue, amnion and umbilical cord. The figure (right) depicts the minimal criteria to define human MSCs. First, MSCs are plastic-adherent and spindle-shaped morphology. Second, they must express CD105, CD73 and CD90, and lack expression of CD45, CD34, CD14 or CD11b, CD79a or CD19 and HLA-DR surface molecules. Last, they must differentiate to osteoblasts, adipocytes and chondroblasts in vitro
