The suggested mechanism of action of 5-azacytidine (5-AZA) in inducing MSC differentiation into Cardiomyocytes. 5-AZA inhibits MSC proliferation by suppressing the expression of Nanog and Sox2. It is anticipated that 5-AZA is acting through Notch and MAPK pathways to stimulate the expression of cardiac-specific genes and eventually induce differentiation into cardiomyocytes.
